Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)–A Spirit Lake banker has been named that community’s “Citizen of the Year.”
The honor is selected each year by the Spirit Lake Kiwanis. Club President Ryan Schmitt tells KICD News John Brown was an easy pick because of his involvement in church, his tireless efforts as a sports booster at school, and his role revitalizing several blocks of Spirit Lake into a commercial district..
Brown says he does it all “for the kids” … both his own and those from the community.
John Brown is a native of Graettinger, purchased Central Bank in Storm Lake with his brother in 1990, and opened the Spirit Lake branch in 1999. He and his wife, Joleen have four adult children and two still in the Spirit Lake schools.
The Kiwanis, incidentally, have been handing out the Spirit Lake Citizen of the Year award since 1948.
