Spencer, IA (KICD)–Iowa Lottery players have won more than $200 million after a record breaking year.
Three Clay County residents highlight some of the winners. Matt Soat won $50,000 while Mark Schwarting cashed in a $100,000 scratch ticket. Stacey Mills also won $10,000 playing Powerball. The lottery brought in nearly $340 million for the 2013 fiscal year. State Lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer tells KICD news about the success.
Retailers benefited from sales.
Spencer’s Hy-Vee gas lead the way for sales in Clay County selling nearly $310,000. Revenue from the lottery goes to a great cause.
Since 2008, the lottery has raised $13 million for veterans. All of the winnings have spread the wealth from local to state economy.
Scratch tickets raked in the most money with over $200 million sold. 2013 marked the fourth straight year in which overall sales increased for the Iowa Lottery.
