Estherville, IA (KICD)–The Iowa Lakes Community College Trustees wrapped up one year and began another at their monthly meeting on Tuesday.
Newly elected Christopher Fuhrman of Spirit Lake joined the board. Jan Lund was re-elected as the President of the Iowa Lakes Trustees and Pat Kibbie was re-elected to the position of Vice President. In addition, Tony Condon was appointed to serve as secretary, and, Bob L’Heureux as treasurer. Scot Bauermeister was selected as the attorney for the Trustees.
The Collegewide Strategic Plan was approved for Iowa Lakes. Mark Gruwell, Executive Dean of Instruction and Development, shared that the document features 21 points that focus on critical areas such as student learning and success, technology and data, and economic development. Although ambitious, the strategic plan incorporates achievable goals and metrics
The growth of the Emmetsburg campus garden was also reviewed. It started as a student fundraising activity and grew to an exploration of small scale production for institutional food service and local markets. Some of the results of this past growing season include: 800 pounds of potatoes, more than 2,000 onions, and 200 pounds of carrots. The garden was home to over 5,500 pounds of vegetables which are being used by the college food service.
The next meeting of the Trustees will be on Tuesday, November 19th in Estherville.
