Spencer, IA (KICD)–The author of the book “When the Boomers Bail: A Community Economic Survival Guide” is slated to make a number of visits in the corridor next week.
Mark Lautman tells KICD News that around 7-8 years ago he noticed a shift in the economic development business in which communities were starting to run out of qualified labor.
Lautman says the combination of having less kids and not properly educating all of them will lead to a lack of qualified workers to fill the roles that the baby boomer generations currently does.
Lautman says for the 1st time ever employers have to figure out where their future employees want to live.
The Iowa Lakes Corridor is sponsoring discussions with Mark Lautman next week. They are scheduled for Monday, August 19th, from 9-11 a.m. at King’s Pointe Resort in Storm Lake; noon-2 p.m., 3-5 p.m., and 5:30-7 p.m. at the Clay County Regional Events Center in Spencer; and on Tuesday, August 20th, from 8-10 a.m. and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at The SAMI Center in Spirit Lake. You can sign up to attend under the events tab at www.lakescorridor.com or by contacting the corridor.
