Storm Lake, IA (KICD)–State officials have been called to help investigate the death of a 1-month-old baby boy in Storm Lake.
On Thursday morning the parents of the child called 911. Storm Lake Police and Buena Vista County Paramedics were unable to establish a clear cause of death and, based on observations made, secured the scene for further processing. The parents of the child were questioned by the police for several hours at the police station and were later released pending further investigation.
On Thursday evening Storm Lake Police executed a search warrant at the residence where the child was located and DCI Crime Lab Technicians out of Des Moines processed the scene for any evidence of foul play.The child was transported to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office pending an autopsy.
Police still don’t know how the boy died. Lab tests may shed more light, said Storm Lake police Chief Mark Prosser, who said, while the actual cause of death is still under investigation, they are not looking at foul play.
Police will not release the name of the child or his parents. A report has been filed the Iowa Department of Human Services.
