Pocahontas, IA (KICD) — A lengthy investigation conducted by several law enforcement agencies results in numerous charges
The theft of copper from different areas led to the investigation, and a search warrant was executed by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office on April 27th at the residence of 30-year old Tyler Tinken in Clarion. Two days later, a second search warrant was executed at the residence of 36-year old Nelson Troyer in Bode. Both were charged.
It was determined that the copper was taken from field irrigation pivots and vacant farms.
As a result of the lengthy investigation,charges have also been filed against Tinken in Pocahontas County for theft and criminal mischief. His bond in Pocahontas County was set at $26,000.
Troyer was charged with theft and criminal mischief in Pocahontas County. His bond was set at $11,000 in Pocahontas County.
Ricky Lee Habben of Palmer was charged with multiple counts of theft, criminal mischief and one count of ongoing criminal conduct. The 40-year-old also faces charges relating to theft and criminal mischief in Pocahontas County. Bond was set at $26,300 in Pocahontas County.
48-year old Daniel Reames of Hardy was charged .for theft and criminal mischief in Pocahontas County. His bond was set at $27,300 in Pocahontas County. He is currently in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Services due to separate federal charges for felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of a stolen firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.
Tinken, Troyer and Habben have additionally been charged with two counts of first-degree theft in Buena Vista County. Those charges stem from the theft of copper from two windmills west of Storm Lake. The three men all turned themselves in to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating these men in reference to copper thefts in their county.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Clarion Police Department, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Monona County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County Attorney’s Office, and Iowa Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
