Spencer, IA (KICD)–Cost estimates for the pending move of the Clay County Communications Center to the current SMU building were presented Wednesday.
A price tag of $508,000 was presented for all of the needed technology and furniture for a two person operation with an optional $47,000 cost to make it compatible for a 3rd person. An additional $74,600-$97,795 is budgeted for needed construction. Those figures put the project over the budget of $550,000.
A Rural Economic Development Loan & Grant for $360,000 will be applied for, but confirmation on that funding is unlikely to come until May or June of next year. The thought is for the city of Spencer and Clay County to come up with $150,000 each for short term financing to get this project moving. Both entities have already committed $100,000 to the project with 911 revenues to pay off the REDLG (red-leg) loan over a 10-year timeframe.
Another meeting of the board responsible for this project has been tentatively scheduled for 11:30 on November 18th in Clay County Board of Supervisors Room to further discuss funding options.
