Climatologist Says Heat Hurt Iowa Corn Yields

Spencer, IA: Climatologist Elwynn Taylor says this year’s Iowa corn yield won’t live up to tradition.

The noted Iowa State University Extension Climatologist says a one-two punch from the late planting and the recent heat wave means corn kernal weights will be down and yields will suffer. He predicts Iowa will not lead the nation this year in corn yields.

Adding to the weather woes, Dr. Taylor says the most recent data shows a tilt toward a less crop-friendly La Nina weather anomaly.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will weigh-in with its crop production projections on September 12th.
