Spencer, IA (KICD) - Bakers and cooks are being sought for competition at the Clay County Fair.
The Fair culinary department is hoping for off the charts involvement in oven products and canned goods competition at the Clay County Fair, September 7-15. Exhibitors do not have to be from Clay County to get involved, and there is no fee to enter either department.
The oven products department offers the perfect avenue for novice and veteran bakers alike to show off their candies, cookies, cakes and more, says Creative Culinary Superintendent Gayle Simons. She also hopes to see more involvement from kids, noting there are many special categories for youngsters.
Oven products competition will feature new classes this year. Exhibitors can now enter diabetic friendly and gluten-free categories into the “Healthy You Baking” class, as well as cake pops and cupcakes which are both new to the “Specialty Cakes” class.
A complete list of classes and categories can be found in the Oven Products Exhibitors Handbook, available online at claycountyfair.com. Entries for Classes 1-17 will be received on September 6 from 10:00am-5:00pm, and Classes 18-20 will be received on September 12 from 8:00am-9:00am, both in the Creative Living Center.
The canned goods department is also looking forward to competition at the Fair this year and hopes for participation from experienced to novice canners. All canned goods entries are due and are to be received at the East door of the Creative Living Center on Tuesday, September 3 between 8:00am and 6:00pm.
Important dates, guidelines, and a complete list of classes and categories for competition are included in the each department’s exhibitor handbook.
