Des Moines, IA (KICD) — The father of Governor Branstad has passed away.
It was announced Friday that Edward Branstad passed away this morning in Mason City, after a long battle with cancer. He was 89. Governor Branstad said in the release his father taught him the value of hard work, and instilled values that guide him every day.
“My father taught me the value of hard work, and instilled in me the values that guide me each day,” said Gov. Branstad. “After a long, hard-fought battle with cancer, he is now at peace. I want to thank everyone for their prayers, well-wishes and offers of support as our whole family goes through this difficult time.”
Edward Branstad’s visitation will be Sunday, from 4 to 7-pm at Waldorf College in Forest City, with the funeral scheduled for Monday morning at 10:30, in the Waldorf College Auditorium.
Burial will immediately follow at Forest Home Cemetery in Leland. Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City is handling the arrangements.
