Cherokee, IA (KICD)–A rodeo legend from rural Peterson passed away Saturday evening.
Bob Barnes, known by many as “The Colonel”, became a member of the Rodeo Cowboys Association in 1950 and held his first PRCA rodeo with his sister. By 1953 they hit the road with a full string of stock and the Barnes Rodeo Company is still running shows today. In the early 60′s, Barnes helped start a children’s home by the name of Midwest Christian Services in Peterson.

Bob Barnes passed away Saturday evening at Careage Hills in Cherokee. Funeral services are slated for 1:30 this Friday at the Church of Christ in Sutherland. Visitation will be at the Sutherland Church of Christ on Friday from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The Boothby Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
