Sheldon, IA (KICD) — There were no injuries as a result of a house fire in Sheldon. Sheldon Fire Chief Jerry Meyer said on Sunday evening, around 7:13, the Sheldon Fire Company was called to 632 4th Avenue in Sheldon, for a house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters saw that the rear of the house was engulfed in flames. Fire fighters positioned the trucks and layed hose and then battled the fire from outside, knocking it down. Then the crew continued inside, extinguishing any hot spots. During the procedure, some vinyl siding had to be removed from the home next door that had melted, to make sure there ws no fire on the home. The home was not occupied at the time and was having some remodeling done. Damage to the home is extensive. The fire was called in by a passerby, and the cause of the fire is undetermined, although initial thoughts deemed it suspicious in nature.. 22 Firefighters and 4 student firefighters responded, and were on scene about 3 hours. Assisting at the scene was by the Sheldon EMA, Sheldon Community Ambulance Team and local law enforcement.
