Spencer, IA (KICD)–The Spencer Hospital Board of Trustees had a chance to hear a report on the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation on Thursday.
Vice President of Marketing and Fund Development Susan Zulk tells KICD news the foundation enhances what the hospital can offer.
In recent months the Foundation also funded a paging system for visitors to use for ongoing communication when they have a family member receiving care in the Surgery Center, instructional dolls used in childbirth education classes, and $10,000 in equipment for patients receiving care in the Mental Health Unit.
It was also noted that the hospital’s preliminary financial results for the fiscal year ending in June were slightly below budget.
Hospital President Bill Bumgarner said over the past several years the hospital has been preparing for anticipated reductions in both payments and service volumes related to federal budget issues and healthcare reform efforts. The Spencer Hospital has not had to cut any staff.
The board approved an expenditure of $109,800 to upgrade the software and hardware needs for the Omnicell medication dispensing units
With the Omnicell units medications can be ordered from the patient’s electronic health record and when dispensed barcodes are checked for optimal accuracy.
