Spencer, IA (KICD)–The new Clay County jail was unveiled this (Friday) morning to a by invitation group.
HMN Architects Principal of Justice Design Steve Davis tells KICD News that for good jail design you must minimize movement and maximize visibility.

Clay County Supervisor Ken Challstrom says the new jail will ease the minds of the board as liability was a major worry in the old jail.
Sheriff Randy Krukow says with the old jail they were not able to correctly classify their prisoners and had to send them elsewhere at a cost to the county.
Some other features include dedicated work release area, training facility, conference room, and plenty of room in their Sally Port.
In May of 2011 Clay County voters approved a $5.6 million bond issue to construct a new jail with over 65 percent voting in favor.
The general public is welcome to attend an open house at the new Clay County jail from 10-4 this Saturday.
