Arts on Grand Watercolor Texture Workshop 9/17 – 9/20):

Arts on Grand in Spencer is offering a watercolor texturing class with South Dakota artist Glenda Drennen for four days. The workshop will include a lecture, handouts, and demonstration and also work to take home. The work shop will run 3-5pm on September 17th, and 10am – 4pm the final three days. The price is $150 for Arts on Grand members or $165 for non-members. Register at Arts on Grand (408 Grand Avenue.)

Walk/Run for Brain Cancer Research 9/20:

The 6th Annual Walk/Run to benefit Brain Cancer Research is Saturday, September 20th at Fairview Elementary in Spencer. Registration at 9:30. $10 to participate, $20 to participate with a t-shirt and door prize. For more information contact Jo Merrill at 262-6381

David Thoreson speaks at Sanford Museum 9/21:

Okoboji photographer/explorer David Thorson will chat about his three arctic expedition aboard small sailboats Sunday, September 21st at the Sanford Museum in Cherokee. The free program begins at 2pm and is funded by Humanities Iowa.

Many Voices Choir Organizational Meeting 9/22:

The Many Voices Choir has its first session of the year Monday, September 22nd at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville. Practices are typically at 7pm, but the first meeting will be at 6:30 to collect the $30 member fee and to get music for the Christmas program. September’s “Book to Movie” Night: Read Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” and then watch the movie in October.

September 23rd: Inspirational workshops to help you write your next novel. Or your first one.

September 22nd: Adult Movie night. The movie “Belle” about the English woman who struggled to end slavery in her country.

Single’s Dance 9/27:

The Algona Road Runners hosts a dance Saturday night, September 27th from 8 to midnight at the Burt Activity Complex. Music by Donnie DJ.

Autumn Supper in Ruthven 9/28:

Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven will hold an autumn supper Sunday, September 28th from 4:30 – 6:30pm. Children 5 and under eat free, 6 to 12 – $4, and adults $6. The menu is a taco bar, potato bar, and ice cream bar. Proceeds go to mission projects.

Monday: Music by Cousin Jerry, exercise, crafts, nickel bingo, and Bridge.

Tuesday: Music by Cousin Jerry and 500.

Wednesday: Exercise, Pass 4 Pinochle, and Canasta.

Thursday: Music by Cousin Jerry, Nickel Bingo, and Bridge.

Friday: Hy-Vee Bread Giveaway (2 loaves per person), Pass Pinochle and Canasta.

Autism Spectrum Support Group of Northwest Iowa

The Autism Spectrum Support Group of Northwest Iowa meets the third Monday of every month from 7pm to 8:30pm at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. New members are welcome.

Parkinson’s Support Group 9/22:

The Parkinson’s Caregiver Support Group will meet September 22nd from 10:15 to 11:15 at the Spencer Family Y.

  • Estherville United Methodist Church hosts at 6th-8th grade dance Friday, September 19th from 7-9:30 at the church.
  • Faith Community Church in Rural Palmer hosts the Southern Gospel Trio “Three Bridges” Wednesday night, October 1st at 7pm.
