Birding Program at Lost Island Nature Center 4/20:
The Palo Alto County Conservation Board and Conservation Foundation are hosting Al Batt – a columnist for Bird Watcher’s Digest – Monday, April 20th at 7pm at the Lost Island Nature Center. Free admission.
Hollywood in the Heartland traveling exhibit in Sheldon 4/21:
The curator of the Iowa Museum will be in Sheldon discussing the “Hollywood in the Heartland” exhibit currently on display in Des Moines. The talk is sponsored by the Sheldon Historical Society and Sheldon Prairie Museum. Leo Landis will speak at 1:15 and again at 7 at the Sheldon Community Services Building Tuesday, April 21st.
Spencer Softball Organizational Meeting 4/24:
The Spencer Co-Ed Slow Pitch Softball meeting will be Friday, April 24th at 6pm at Sneakers.
Royal Community Action Ladies Night Out 4/24:
Royal Community Action’s annual Ladies Night Out is Saturday, April 24th at Haggy’s in Royal and has a Mardis Gras theme. Social time starts at 6pm with the meal at 6:30. Tickets are $15 and are available at many Royal businesses.
Work Day at Lakeshore Center 4/25:
The annual spring work day at Lakeshore Center at Okoboji is Saturday, April 25th from 9-4. Tasks include: painting, landscape and yard work, and cleaning and stocking the cabins. Lunch will be provided. Please call to let them know you’re coming: 712-337-3313.
Shayla Bee “100 Familes Celebration” 4/25:
The Shaylva Bee foundation will commemorate helping its 100th family in nine years Saturday, April 25th at the South Park Mall. Meet and mingle at 2pm, program at 4:30pm, with social hour at 6pm. The event is held in conjunction with the annual motorcycle show at the mall.
4-H Shooter’s Breakfast 4/26:
Clay County Sharp Shooters host a fundraiser for youth shooting sports Sunday, April 26th from 7:30-12:30 at the Spencer VFW. Menu includes Scrambled Eggs, sausage, pancakes, and French toast. A free will offering will be accepted.

Baseball Exhibit at Clay County Heritage Center:
The summer exhibit at the Clay County Heritage Center is “Celebrate Clay County Baseball”. Highlights include displays about the various school teams that have won state championships, the city teams that played each other, and the semi-pro “Spencer Cardinals”. The museum is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 10-4; Thursdays 10-6; and Saturdays 10-3. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids 5-12.
Arts on Grand:
- The current display in the gallery is Iowa artist Stewart Buck’s pastel work concentrating on railroad theme. Arts on Grand is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 10-5; Thursday 10-8; and Saturday 10-3.
Dickinson County Conservation Board:
- Soil painting class Wednesday, April 22nd at 6pm. Registration is required.
- Wildflower hunt Wednesday April 29th at 9:30. Meet at the Nature Center in Okoboji and then caravan to the county’s new woodland property in Milford for the hike.
