  • Spencer City Hall will be closed Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday.
  • ALL East Side residential recycling in Spencer will be picked up Friday. (No pickup on Thursday)

Dickinson County Turkey Trot 11/26:

The next Dickinson County Conservative hike will be at the Nature Center in Okoboji Wednesday, November 26th. There will be hikes at 1pm and 4pm with participants learning about turkeys, doing a craft, and searching for live turkeys along the outdoor trail. The next outdoor hike planned is a Winter Solstice Hike scheduled for December 23rd. More information is available at www.dickinsoncountyconservationboard.com

Estherville Thanksgiving Dinner:

The Crossroads Community Church in Estherville is hosting a Thanksgiving Dinner November 27th from 11 to 1. You can donate any amount you like, but reservations are required by phoning the church.

Spirit Lake Senior Dance 11/30:

The Spirit Lake Senior Center will host a dance November 30th from 2-5pm. Music by Shirley’s Big Band.

Sioux Central Financial Aid Night 12/4:

Sioux Central High School will host an information meeting on Financial Aid Thursday, December 4th at 6pm. Students and parents should attend the presentation in the high school media center.

Graettinger Tour of Homes 12/7:

The Graettinger Women’s Club Holiday Tour of Homes will be Sunday, December from 1-4pm. $5 tickets are available at the Graettinger Market or Barb’s Hairstyling or the day of the event at the Methodist Church.

Turkey Dinner in Dickens 12/13:

The Dickens United Methodist Church hosts a turkey dinner with all the trimmings and homemade pie Saturday, December 13th from 11 to 12:30. A freewill offering will be accepted.   Charity auction to follow at 12:30.

Spencer Library Schedule:

December 1st: Spencer Library will have a Hot Cocoa Bar during Spencer’s Grand Meander.

December 8th: The DIY club will be making Thumbprint Ornaments at 6:30pm.

December 15th:  Movie night is “Maleficent” starring Angelina Jolie at 7pm.

December 18th: Cookie Exchange at 6:30pm. Registration is required.

December 29th:   The book into Movie night will be reading and then watching “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.”

Spencer Area Activity Center Activites Week of 11/24:

Monday: Exercise, crafts, nickel bingo, bridge, and Music by Cousin Jerry.

Tuesday: 500 and Music by Cousin Jerry.

Wednesday: Exercise, Canasta, and Pass 4 Pinochle.

Thursday:          CLOSED

Friday: CLOSED

Sunday: Biscuits and Gravy Breakfast 9am – 1pm. Free Will Donation.

Miscellaneous Community Events:

  • This year’s Holiday Stroll in Royal is Sunday, November 23rd. If you’d like to decorate a tree and/or reserve a table for the event, email genson@yahoo.com
  • The Tree of Love at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake will be lit Sunday November 30th at 5pm. To purchase a wooden heart with the name of a loved one to place on the tree contact Amy Peterson at 712-336-4444.

  • Louis Altar Society in Royal will host a Buffet and Bake Sale Friday, December 5th from 7-9am.

Autism Spectrum Support Group of Northwest Iowa

The Autism Spectrum Support Group of Northwest Iowa meets the third Monday of every month from 7pm to 8:30pm at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer. New members are welcome.
