Spencer Business Before Hours 5/4:

The next Business Before Hours in Spencer is Wednesday, May 4th from 7:30am-8:30am at The Bear.  Coffee and light breakfast items will be served for all chamber members and their staff.

Arnolds Park / Okoboji Fire and Rescue Pancake Feed 5/6 – 5/7:

The Arnolds Park / Okoboji Fire and Rescue Department 39th annual pancake feed is Friday night, May 6th from 5-8pm, and Saturday morning May 7th from 7am-Noon.  Cakes and sausage will be prepared by the Milford Boy Scouts with the meal served at the fire department in Arnolds Park.

Wings and Wetlands Weekend 5/14-5/15:

The Palo Alto County Conservation Board sponsors Wings and Wetlands Weekend May 14th and 15th.  Saturday’s program is at 1pm at Lost Island Huston Park with an informational program at ducks.  Sunday’s session is a bird walk beginning at the Nature Center.

Spencer Jaycee’s Sandbox Fill 5/14:

The Spencer Jaycees will be filling sandbox Saturday, May 14th beginning at 9am, in the morning.  Price is $10 for the first wheelbarrow full and $5 for each additional load. Sand must be pre-ordered at 712-240-3469 by May 13th at 5pm.

Pancake Breakfast at Camp Okoboji 5/15:

There will be a pancake breakfast Sunday, May 15th from 9:30am-1pm at Camp Okoboji in Wahpeton to benefit the local Lutheran Early Response Team.

Spirit Lake Green Waste Site Open:

The City of Spirit Lake’s Green Waste site will open for the year March 24th.  It is for Spirit Lake residents only and you must show your id at the gate.  Hours are:

  • Saturdays: 9am-5pm.
  • Sundays: 1pm-5pm.
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: 3pm-7pm.

Weekly Schedule at Spencer Area Activity Center:

  • Monday: Exercise, Nickel Bingo, and Bridge.
  • Tuesday: Nickel Bingo, 500, Cribbage, and Piano with Madeline.
  • Wednesday: Action Club, Exercise, crafts, and Pass 4 Pinochle.
  • Thursday: Exercise, Nickel Bingo, and Bridge.
  • Friday: Exercise and Pass Pinochle.

Nominations are now being accepted for four positions on the Clay County Council on Aging.  Elections will be held Mary 5th at the Spencer Area Activity Center.

Upcoming Events at Spencer Public Library:

  • May 12th: Historian and songwriter Bill Jamerson presents a musical tribute to the Civilian Conservation Corps.
  • May 16th: Adult Movie Night shows “Lady in the Van” starring Maggie Smith.
  • May 22nd: Actress Helen Lewis portrays Jane Addams in a one woman presentation.
  • May 23rd: Book discussion on “Lila” by Marilynne Robinson.

Mothers of Preschoolers:

“MOPS” or “Mothers of Preschoolers” meet the first and third Thursdays of the month for fellowship at Hope Church in Spencer.  Childcare is provided.  Meetings run 9am-11am and range from speakers to crafts and snacks.  For information ahead of time phone:  712-262-3016.
