SCT presents “Lombardi” 2/13 – 2/21:

Tickets are on sale for Spencer Community Theatre’s presentation of “Lombardi” the weekends of February 12th and February 21st. The Box office is open weekdays 11am-5:30pm. The phone number is 262-7336.

Leadership Spencer Classes Start March 7th:

Registration for the Spencer Chamber of Commerce annual “Leadership Spencer” classes is now open. The 10 week class runs Monday nights from March 7th to May 9th from 3pm-5pm and is limited to the first 20 individuals to sign up. More information at 712-262-5680 or www.spenceriowachamber.org

Trivia Night in Spencer 2/25:

Kiwanis After 5 and the Spencer USA/YP group are sponsoring trivia night, Thursday, February 25th at Spencer Golf and Country Club. Participate for $10 per person, or an entire 15 person table for $80. For more information phone Kristi or Kathy at 712-262-2202.

Dodgeball Tournament in Marathon 2/27:

The annual Dodgeball Tournament in Marathon is Saturday February 27th. Teams must consist of 4 men and 2 women. Registration is $120 per team with the winning team taking home $220. The register phone Randy at 712-240-2848. All proceeds go to The Shayla Bee Fund, Pony Express, and Reins of Hope. Spectators are also welcome with food and beverages for sale during the event.

Girl Scout Valentine Brunch in Royal 2/14:

The Clay Central Everly Girl Scouts host a Valentine’s Day Brunch at the Royal Community Center from 10:30am-1:30pm. There will be a variety of soups, desserts, a craft activity, and door prizes.

Sacred Heart Fish Fry in Spencer 2/19:

Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer holds their annual Fish Fry Friday, February 19th from 5:30pm-7pm serving all-you-can eat batter-fried fish and macaroni and cheese. Free will offerings benefit Sacred Heart School. Take-Outs will also be available.

Little Mav’s Daycare Fundraiser 2/21:

There will be a fundraiser for the Little Mav’s Daycare Center Sunday, February 21st from 10:30am-1pm at Hap Ketelsen Center in Everly. Lunch will be served for a free-will donation, and there will be hudreds of live and silent auction items.

This Month at Spencer Public Library:

  • Thursday, February 11th: Level 2 Code Club.
  • Friday, February 12th: Teen Valentine Candy making.
  • Saturday, February 13th: Anime and Japanese Culture Club, Teen Board meeting, and Teen Gaming.

Weekly Schedule at Spencer Area Activity Center:

  • Monday: Exercise, Nickel Bingo, and Bridge.
  • Tuesday: Nickel Bingo, 500, and Cribbage.
  • Wednesday: Exercise and Pass 4 Pinochle.
  • Thursday: Exercise, Nickel Bingo, and Bridge.
  • Friday: Exercise and Pass Pinochle.

** Valentine’s Day Soup and Pie Supper 5-7pm at Spencer Area Activity Center.

Films for the Cinematically Disadvantaged:

Arts on Grand will hold “Films for the Cinematically Disadvantaged” Monday nights at 7 at the Carey’s Electronic theatre in downtown Spencer. The schedule is:

  • February 15th: “Umbrellas of Cherbourg” – a 1964 film from France.
  • February 22nd: “Of Gods and Men” – a 2010 film from France.
  • February 29th: “Tokyo Story” – a 1951 film from Japan.
  • March 7th: “The Counterfeiters” – a 2007 film from Germany.

Quilt Show at Clay County Heritage Center:

The current exhibit at the Clay County Heritage Center on Grand Avenue is “Quilts for All Seasons.” There is a variety items – all made by local quilters – depicting the history of American holidays. The show runs through February 27th.

Mothers of Preschoolers:

“MOPS” or “Mothers of Preschoolers” meet the first and third Thursdays of the month for fellowship at Hope Church in Spencer. Childcare is provided. Meetings run 9am-11am and range from speakers to crafts and snacks. For information ahead of time phone: 712-262-3016.
