Spirit Lake Accident
Spirit Lake, IA (KICD) -- A Windom man was injured in a car vs motorcycle accident.
The Spirit Lake Police Department says the accident occurred just after 3:30 Friday afternoon, at the intersection of Highways 9 and 71 in Spirit Lake.
67-year old Gaylen Derksen was driving a 2008 Victory motorcycle eastbound on Highway 9. 35-year old Ashley Fircton of Guernee, Illinois was driving a 2000 Honda automobile west on Highway 9 and attempted to make a left turn south onto 71 when the two vehicles collided in the intersection.
Derksen was thrown from the motorcycle in the collision. He was taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare by ambulance with facial lacerations and later was transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Fircton was not injured in the crash. Both vehicles received approximately $1000 in damages. No charges were filed in the mishap, as witnesses claimed both drivers stopped, then proceeded into the intersection at the same time.
Assisting at the scene was the Spirit Lake First Responders, Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance and Paramedics, along with Okoboji Police Department.
