Spencer, IA (KICD)--Spencer Fire and Rescue Personnel were called to a house fire shortly after noon on Monday.

Flames were visible upon arrival at 815 5th Avenue Southwest from the exterior of the home. That blaze was extinguished and crews moved on to check for fire extension on the interior. The fire damage was contained to the exterior, with only light damage to the interior.

The cause of the blaze was improperly discarded smoking material. Damage was estimated at $10,000.

19 Firefighters were on scene for just over an hour. Spencer Police and Spencer Hospital Paramedics assisted. No injuries were noted.
