Spencer, IA (KICD)--A Spencer man is taken by helicopter to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls following an accident last Saturday.
Spencer Police report that 37-year-old Benjamin Decker was heading north on Grand Avenue in front of Motor Inn when he lost control of his 2009 Honda Motorcycle and skidded for 186 feet at 10:37 p.m. The bike struck a pickup causing minor damage.
Decker was taken to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls by helicopter with incapacitating injuries.
Spencer, IA (KICD)--Spencer Police have released information from an August 31st mishap that landed a Sioux Rapids man in Spencer Hospital.
20-year-old Ashley Fox of Spencer was heading south in the 700 block of Grand Avenue shortly after 4:30 p.m. in a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. Fox stated that 36-year-old William Haight crossed the center line and hit her, then continued to hit a traffic control lightpole with his 2001 Ford Windstar and continued to drive away. Fox noted it looked as if Haight was sleeping.
Police initially investigated the case as a hit and run and located Haight at Hy Vee where he seemed confused and unaware of the accident. Field sobriety tests gave no clues as the whether Haight was impaired or not.
Haight was taken to Spencer Hospital by ambulance due to the blackout and being unaware of the mishap. He was cited for failure to maintain control
Spencer, IA (KICD)--A Spencer girl is taken to the hospital following a Wednesday afternoon mishap.
Spencer Police say 34-year-old Nicholas Steffen of Spencer was heading south on 4th Avenue West shortly before 1:15 in a 1999 Buick Century. Steffen struck 7-year-old Ashlyn Potter, who was riding her bike, at the intersection with 9th Avenue West. Steffen says his view was obstructed due to the sun and he could not see the child on the shoulder of the roadway.
Potter sustained cuts and scrapes to her left leg, left ankle and a bump on her forehead and was taken to Spencer Hospital by her mother with possible injuries.
Steffen was not cited as Potter entered the roadway at a non crossing zone at the opposite direction of traffic.
