Sioux Center, IA (KICD)--Six fire departments battled a grocery store fire in Sioux Center on Friday.
Deputy State Fire Marshal David Schipper says firefighters were called to Polo's Market and Mexican Food Store at 44 Third Street NW shortly before 10 AM.
Sioux Center fire officials called for help from Orange City, Hull, Ireton, Rock Valley and Maurice. Sioux County deputies, Sioux Center ambulance crews, emergency management personnel, city staff and state troopers helped out at the scene.
The fire was confined to the food store, but smoke damage was reported in four adjacent buildings.
Firefighters were on the scene for more than three hours. Nobody was hurt.
Schipper says the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental. Officials think an unattended candle in the back living quarters of the building started the blaze. No damage estimate is available -- but officials say the building is considered a total loss.
