School Board Wrap



Spencer, IA (KICD)--The Spencer School Board had a chance to sit down with area legislators on Tuesday.

Newly elected House District 2 Representative Megan Hess tells KICD News that money will be a key issue in the upcoming legislative session.

State Senator David Johnson says there is a definite need to make up lost ground on student achievement

Johnson noted that education and property tax reform are tops on Governor Branstad's to do list.

 
Superintendent Terry Hemann reiterated that funding is key.

 
The board approved asking for additional spending authority through the School Budget Review Committee.

A hearing was also held on an early start date for the coming year. The date, while undetermined, will likely come before September 1st.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting is set for December 18th.
