Schoelerman Passes



Spencer, IA (KICD)--The city of Spencer loses one it their finest citizens.

Stanley Schoelerman passed away Sunday at the age of 87.   Toby Shine tells KICD News about his longtime friend.



Shine says "you always got scared when Stan came into your office."



Shine has had two mentors in his life, his father and Stan Schoelerman.



According to his obituary on www.warnerfuneralhome.com Schoelerman was named Outstanding Young Farmer in the state of Iowa in 1959 and worked on his family's farm in Everly until 1964 when he moved to Spencer and joined the Petersen Sheep and Cattle Company. Two years later he bought the company with a pair of business partners.  In 1974, Governor Robert Ray appointed Stan to the Iowa Transportation Commission, followed by another appointment to the National Motor Carriers Committee in 1980.

An active Kiwanian for over 40 years and an involved member of the First Congregational Church, Schoelerman was a founding trustee of the Spencer Community Theatre and was named Spencer Citizen of the Year in 1971.



Schoelerman's funeral will be held at 11:00am on Thursday at First Congregational Church in Spencer. 
Visitation will be held at the First Congregational Church in Spencer beginning at 5:00 today (Wednesday) with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. by the Evening Shade Lodge #312 A.F. & A.M. of Spencer.

A Continuation in Celebration of Stan's Life will be held from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Spencer Community Theater on Thursday.
