Spencer, IA (SCT)--One of Broadway’s best-loved musicals arrives at Spencer Community Theatre this spring, and all are welcome to join the adventure by auditioning for “Hello, Dolly!” Vivacious, brash, and bursting with great music, Hello, Dolly! reminds us just how much fun it is to be truly alive! The widowed Dolly Levi makes a living meddling and matchmaking, until she meets the perennially crotchety Horace Vendergelder. Determined to marry him for his money, she leads us all on a rousing adventure of mistaken identities, wild goose-chases, and perfectly timed dance numbers until love conquers all. Full of catchy tunes, colossal hats, a steam train, and all the glitz of turn-of-the-century New York City, you won’t want to miss the chance to be a part of the biggest production of SCT’s 53rd season!
Directed by Evan Hilsabeck, SCT’s new Managing Artistic Director, Hello, Dolly! features a large cast, and all are welcome to audition! Adults of all ages as well as students aged 16-18 are encouraged to try out for both lead and supporting roles. Auditions will take place Monday, January. 7th and Tuesday, Jan. 8th at the SCT Playhouse located one block off Grand Avenue in Spencer at 518 1st Ave. E. Auditions begin at 6:30pm and doors open at 6pm. Those auditioning may want to allow a little extra time beforehand to fill out the audition form. Please note that it is not necessary to attend both evenings of auditions.
Auditions will consist of group readings from the play, and brief movement and vocal auditions. No experience is required in any of these areas. There is no need to prepare anything in advance, but auditionees are welcome to check out a copy of the script at the SCT Playhouse prior to auditions.
Rehearsals run Sunday afternoons or evenings (exact time TBD) and Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Rehearsals begin Sunday, Jan. 13th and run until the show opens on Friday, March. 8th. Most actors will not be called to every rehearsal. SCT is often able to work around conflicts, as long as the conflicts are listed on the audition form. Anyone who wants to audition but isn’t available during audition times, please contact the SCT Playhouse at 262-7336 to schedule an alternate audition time. Hello, Dolly! performs March 8-10, 15-17, 22 and 23.
