Area (KICD)--A Red Flag warning is in effect this afternoon for all of Northwest Iowa and Southwest Minnesota.
Southwest winds with gusts up to 35 miles per hour are developing today ahead of a cold front. Winds will gradually shift to the west in the afternoon with relative humidity dropping to near 20 percent. Combine the conditions and very dry vegetation and very dangerous wildfire conditions occur.
An extreme fire danger is also in effect today as the grassland fire danger index will reach the extreme category this afternoon. No outdoor burning should take place today.
The Red Flag warning is in effect from noon to 7:00 p.m.
