Spencer, IA (KICD)--Multiple charges are filed by the Clay County Sheriff's Office following a Sunday evening traffic stop in the 3200 mile of Highway 18.
After investigation 46-year-old Terry Simunek of Emmetsburg was booked into Clay County jail on charges of OWI 3rd offense - a class D felony, Possession of controlled substance, careless driving, excessive speed, fail to prove liability insurance, and registration violation. Simunek was held to appear before the magistrate.
Newell, IA (KICD)--A Sulpher Springs man sustains injuries in a car accident after breaking into a home early this (Monday) morning.
A rural Newell resident called 911 shortly before 5:00 a.m. reporting an unknown man broke into his home and was involved in an accident. The Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office alleges that 31-year-old Justin Howard drove off of an old roadway and into a ravine impacting the ravine. Howard initially stated that a woman was driving the vehicle, but after an extensive search this was found to be false.
Howard was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and treated for the injuries received in the accident. Upon being released Howard was arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant for Violation of a Protective Order based on an investigation by the Storm Lake Police Department. Howard was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail. The investigation into this incident is continuing.
Agencies assisting include the Storm Lake Police Department, the Newell Police Department, the Newell Ambulance Service, the Newell Fire Department and the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center paramedics.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--An intoxicated Storm Lake man is arrested Friday evening.
Storm Lake Police were called to a home where witnesses reported that 54-year-old Kerry Carothers engaged in an argument at the home when some friends asked him to leave due to his level of intoxication. Carothers became angry and started yelling.
Police arrested Carothers and further allege they located and seized a small amount of pot in his possession. Carothers was charged with Possession of marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,900 cash bond.
Sibley, IA (KICD)--A Sioux Falls woman pleads guilty to charges of Assault, Operating While Intoxicated, and Identity Theft in Osceola County District Court.
25-year-old Brooke Mejia was stopped for a traffic violation on July 27th. After failing sobriety tests and blowing over the legal limit Mejia provided the Osceola County Deputy with a fictitious name, signed a citation with that name, and then admitted she lied when question about her name. A check of Mejia’s driving record showed there were two outstanding warrants for her arrest including one out of Osceola County for a June assault in which Mejia struck a female victim several times in the face.
The total jail time received in the sentencing comes to 117 days with another 153 days suspended. Mejia was placed on probation for two years as well.
Granville, IA (KICD)--A Granville woman is injured in an early Sunday morning accident.
The Sioux County Sheriff's Office says the mishap took place around 1:10 a.m. on Log Avenue, three miles northwest of Granville. 31-year-old Crystal Lammers was driving a 1998 Lincoln Navigator northbound on Log when she collided with two cows on the roadway. After the wreck the car left the roadway and entered the north ditch.
Lammers was transported to the Sheldon Hospital by Granville Ambulance for treatment of her injuries. The cattle died following the collision.
