Law Enforcement Reports



Everly, IA (KICD) -- A traffic stop leads to the arrest of an Everly teen.
   The Clay County Sheriffs Office made the stop in the 1700 mile of B-24 around 5:19 Saturday morning.  Upon investigation, it was determined a 16-year old female had taken her parents car without permission, and was intoxicated while driving.

   As a result, she was placed under arrest for OWI 1st offense, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner's Consent, Underage Alcohol Possession, and Violation of an Instruction Permit, and was taken to the Clay County Jail.

  She was held for transport to the Cherokee Youth Emergency Services Center.

Pocahontas, IA (KICD) -- Multiple arrests are made in a theft investigation.

   The Pocahontas and Humboldt County Sheriffs Departments teamed up on a joint investigation. 

   As a result, 30-year old Stephen Brown Jr of Gilmore City was arrested June 21st, on charges of Possession of Stolen Property, with an estimated value over $10,000, a class C felony.  Brown was also charged with 3 counts of 2nd degree theft, class D felonies, in relation to thefts of motor vehicles.

  Also arrested was 22-year old Matthew Gagen, of Mallard, and 24-year old Dustin Harris of Humboldt.  Gagen was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Marijuana, both 2nd offenses, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He was jailed in Humboldt County on a $4200 cash or surety bond.

   Harris was charged 2nd degree Theft, a class D felony, and Driving While Barred.  He was jailed in Humboldt County on a $7000 cash or surety bond.

  The theft charges are from numerous pieces of stolen property located at the residence stemming from burglaries and thefts in Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Humboldt and Wright counties.  The investigation continues and more arrests are possible.

   Assisting in the search was the Palo Alto and Wright County Sheriff's Offices, along with Fonda and Pocahontas Police Departments.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A pair of arrests are made in connection to an ongoing investigation into the sale of illegal drugs in and around Storm Lake.

On Sunday afternoon a pair of vehicles traveling one behind the other were stopped by the Storm Lake Police Entry Team and Narcotics Team supported by Buena Vista County Deputies.  48-year-old Demetrius Staten of Storm Lake was ordered out of the car and allegedly refused to comply with officer’s instructions as he was being taken into custody. Police subsequently deployed a Taser against Staten at which time he quit resisting and was subdued.  At this time 36-year-old Michael Mosley of Storm Lake was taken into custody as well.

Police allege they located and seized from Staten a quantity of what is believed to be heroin that he had on his person. Police located approximately four ounces of marijuana on Mosley.  More pot and heroin along with drug paraphernalia was located after searching through the vehicles.

Subsequent search warrants were executed Sunday evening.  At 709B West 9th Street Police seized an additional quantity of what is believed to be heroin along with methadone and substances used to cut the heroin for street sales.  At 1414 Park Street drug paraphernalia and a small amount of cash was located.  At 140 Kenzy Street Police reportedly located and seized marijuana packaged for street sales and drug paraphernalia.

Staten faces a class C felony charge of Possession With Intent to Deliver Heroin, Possession of Marijuana, Interference With Official Acts and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $51,600 cash bond.

Mosley was charged with class D felony counts of
Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Deliver and Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, Possession of Marijuana 3rd Offense and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  He was held in county jail on a $12,300 bond.

The recovered heroin is part of an investigation to stop the flow of heroin into the city from Chicago.  Additional arrests and charges are pending.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--An Ames man is jailed by Storm Lake Police following a Saturday morning traffic stop.

After finding 22-year-old Benjamin Sojka to be intoxicated Police found was in possession of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and other drug paraphernalia.

Following an investigation police charged Sojka with OWI, Possession of a controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,300 cash bond.

Bode, IA (KICD)--A Bode man lead law enforcement on a three county chase in the midnight hour Sunday morning.

Palo Alto County Deputies attempted to pull over 21-year-old Bryce Jo Jenson in West Bend at 12:46 a.m.  Jenson led authorities on a 20 minute pursuit through Palo Alto, Kossuth, and Humboldt Counties before being stopped just west of Bode.

After investigation Jenson was jailed on a class D felony county of eluding law enforcement and OWI 1st offense.

West Bend, IA (KICD) -- A West Bend man is arrested after hitting an electric pole while driving.

   The Palo Alto County Sheriffs Office says shortly before 10 Friday evening, Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of 1st Avenue NW in West Bend, of a vehicle that had struck an electric pole.

   Upon arrival, deputies found the pole broken in half, and after talking with witnesses, an arrest was made of 61-year old Richard Kayser, on OWI charges.  He was jailed awaiting an appearance before the magistrate.

  Damage to the pole was $5000, and $4500 to Kayser's truck.  There were no injuries in the accident. 

Paullina, IA (KICD)--Information concerning a number of arrests in connection to a burglary and drug investigation by Paullina Police in May is released.

Police Chief Nathan Bremer tells KICD News that as part of an ongoing investigation a search of 317 South Maple Street was performed on May 16th with the assistance of the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office and Sutherland Police.

Items were removed from the house which matched the description of property reported as stolen from local residents late last year in a continuing burglary investigation.   Additional evidence was found and seized which pertained to the manufacture, possession and use of marijuana.

Those charged include 20-year-old Nathan Oldenkamp, 19-year-old Hannah Garza, and Tyler St. Pierre who were jailed on charges of Manufacture of Marijuana, Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  St Pierre was also cited for possession of alcohol under the legal age.  Jeffrey and Jonathon Oldenkamp and Courtney Banut were charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  An arrest warrant was issued for Arturo Casillas, another resident of the house not present at the time of the search.  he was later arrested for possession of marijuana .

All had an Initial Appearance before the O’Brien County Magistrate, and were later released on bond.  Each person had a future appearance in District Court scheduled.

Orange City, IA (KICD)--A Maurice man is injured following a Saturday evening motorcycle mishap near Orange City.

At 10:15 45-year-old Jon Van Peursem was driving a 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on
Highway 10 when two deer entered the roadway.  He slowed down to avoid the first deer but was
unable to avoid the second deer, colliding with it.

Van Peursem was transported to the Orange City Hospital by the Orange City Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.

The Sioux County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Maurice First Responders.
