The monument was put into it's place Today (Thursday) in the Emmet County Law Enforcement Center North of the main entrance. It was purchased through a memorial donation from Henry-Olson Funeral Homes.
Max was initially purchased through generous donations by area citizens and businesses. In his three-plus years on the street, Max and K-9 Handler, Matt Reineke, assisted in the confiscation of $59,000 worth of illegal drugs, two vehicles involved in illegal drug activity and $3,500 in cash from suspected drug dealers.
Max also assisted in looking for missing persons and the apprehension of fleeing suspects. The team worked with many agencies and the Iowa Great Lakes Drug Task Force.
Max died on October 5th 2011, following a short illness caused by a disease known as Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia.
