Paulsen said Republicans will have to find some middle ground with the Democrats, who remain control in the Iowa Senate. He added Democrats campaigned on many of the same issues as his caucus, and Iowans expect lawmakers to show up and get to work.

Des Moines, IA (KICD)--Senate Republicans have elected a new leader.
Senator Bill Dix of Shell Rock has served in the Iowa Senate for the past ten years. He noted that if Republicans find a way to get a statewide vote to ban same-sex marriage or advance abortion restrictions, they'll pursue it.
Local Senators David Smith of Ocheyedan and Randy Feenstrat of Hull were elected as Assistant Leaders.
