General Election Results



Area (KICD)--KICD News provided listeners with coverage of tonight's general election across the listening area.

In Clay County Dave Scott fended off a challenge from Randy Plagman 452-313 to stay on the Spencer City Council. Scott spoke with KICD News after learning of his re-election.

Elsewhere in the County Mindy Sylvester defeated incumbent Ken Essick 35-27 to fill their Mayoral post. Robert Fritz, Bradley Greene, and Lynn Meyer fill out the Webb Council. In Dickens Bill Burgeson and Johnnie L. King will join the city council. David Yungbluth will be the new Mayor in Rossie with Beth Starkson, Steve Kracht, and Stacy Baas to fill 3 of 5 open council seats. Scott Brown outlasted Jennifer Samson 83-15 to become the new Mayor of Peterson. Jacquie Rothrock, Rick Deluri, and Terry Selk will fill the open city council seats. Casey Lawson is the new Mayor in Greenville defeating Kenny Stewart 21-11. Colton Meyer, Danny Knutson, and Amy Orwig will fill 3 of 5 open council seats. Gary Findling looks to be the new Mayor of Gillett Grove. Write ins Lorraine Vanderpool, Lewis Clark, Dorothy Burger, and Lanny Beavers look likely to fill 4 of 5 open council spots. Marlin Voss will take over as Mayor of Fostoria. Top council vote getters include Aaron Rutter, Dwight Depew, and Jim Shatto. Everly Mayor Bud Meyer fended off Keith Fliss 64-55. Everly Council spots will be filled by incumbents Ron Thompson, Jeannett Trojahn, and Jon Pausley. Lastly in Dickens Ted Thomas is the new Mayor with Mark Jones and John Miller the new council members .

For other counties we will just look at contested races. In Dickinson County incumbent Lake Park Mayor John Engel defeated Ken Fiala 235-135. Incumbents Lance Heikens, and Richard Packebush will be joined by newcomer Clark Rebkers on the Lake Park Council. Don Lamb is the new Mayor in Milford and while Keith Feller and Christopher Hinshaw look to be on the council, just one vote separates former Mayor Virgil Wahlman and Michael Anderson with Anderson up 136-135 unofficially. In Okoboji Neal Christensen, Susan Larsen, and Jerry Robinson are on the council. Tim Fairchild will stay on as Terril Mayor. Jen Nissen and Elwin Clark will stay on the Terril Council. In Wahpeton incumbents James Keck, Thomas Rierson, and Wayne Johnson will stay on the council.

In Palo Alto County Jeff Moore and incumbent Pauline Miller are on the Ayrshire council along with Jennifer Buetner who fills an unexpired term. The Cylinder City Council will be filled by incumbents Kurt Bonstetter, Harry Bormann, Kevin Long, Dave Waldschmidt, and Deb Weisbrod. Incumbent 1st ward Emmetsburg councilmember Steve Finer will be joined on the council by Brian Malm who ousted Pam Smith.

In Emmet County Estherville Mayor Lyle Hevern defeated John Hanson 312-273. Estherville Councilmember Larry Anderson defeated Amber Houge to stay in his seat. Darryl Anderson and Kenneth Lowry fill two Ringsted Council seats. In Wallingford Jeremy Bodle, Betsy Dostal and incumbents Jarrod Fischer, Linda Mickelson, and Terry Osher were elected.

In O'Brien County Steve Loshman will stay on a Calumet Mayor. Sanborn Council incumbent Ron Schott and Michael Benner won the two open spots there. Sheldon's new Mayor is Katricia Ryder..The new Mayor of Sutherland is Alan Mills and Karen Storm is the new Mayor in Archer.

In Buena Vista County Lakeside Mayor Gene Mandernach will stay on his post. Lakefield council incumbents Dennis Fisher, Kathleen Pomrenke, and Warren Wilson tallied enough votes to stay. In Marathon incumbent Kathy Schulz and Teresa Snyder were voted onto the council. In Newell Dana Davis, Pamela Wilken, and incumbent Nathan Kier were elected to the council. Andrew Hasley fended off a strong challenger from Jim Wise 85-80. William Johnson and Paige Patten are new faces on the Sioux Rapids council. Storm Lake Mayor Jon Kruse will stay on his post and will be joined by new council members Dan Anderson and Michael Porsch. In Truesdale there are too many writ in votes to report accurately at this time for Mayor and the city council.

In Osceola County the lone contested race on the ballot was for the Harris city council. Incumbent Phil Hibma and Russell Meier took those two spots.
