Sibley, IA (KICD)--A Sunday evening Osceola County mishap takes a life.
County Deputies were called out at approximately 8:30. The caller, who was sleeping when the accident took place, was unsure of their location and it took 25 minutes to locate the vehicle on the northbound Highway 60 on ramp from 2nd Avenue, about one mile south of Sibley.
28-year-old Christopher Kadlec of McGrath, Minnesota apparently became confused about his direction of travel and mistook the Highway 60 on ramp for a southbound highway. Kadlec failed to negotiate a curve which led the 1997 Chevy Venture van to the ditch where it rolled. Kadlec and three unbelted passengers were completely or partially ejected from the van. One passenger who was wearing a seatbelt, remained in the van, and later called for help.
29-year-old Nicholas Carlson of Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota was pronounced dead at the scene. Kadlec and 54-year-old Mark Brune of Hinckley were treated at Osceola Community Hospital and later flown to Sioux Falls. 23-year-old Donald Nelson of Stanchfield, Minnesota and 24-year-old Chay Brune of Hinckley were each treated at Osceola Community Hospital with Nelson kept for observation and Brune released.
The Iowa State Patrol were among the many who assisted.
