Spencer, IA (KICD)--A burn ban goes into effect for Clay County at 8:00 this morning.

A burn ban goes into effect when open burning constitutes a danger to life or property.  Those wishing to perform a supervised, controlled burn must apply for a permit through the town Fire Chief.  The burn ban does not affect the use of outdoor fireplaces, barbecue grills, properly supervised landfills, or the burning of trash in incinerators or trash burners made of metal, concrete, masonry, or heavy one-inch wire mesh, with no openings greater than one square inch.

Pocahontas County is the only neighborning County with a burn ban in effect.
