Superintendent Dennis McClain tells KICD News that the current wind turbine abruptly stopped working this Summer. Since then the district has received information and advice from Iowa Wind Energy Association President Harold Prior on whether or not it makes sense for the district to spend the money on repairs or an upgrade.
McClain notes that if the board decides to move forward on this project, the funding would come from the capital project fund, which cannot go towards other needs.
Interested contractors have informed the district that performing minor repairs just to get the turbine up and running would likely lead to future breakdowns and are recommending a nearly wholesale replacement. Bids of $109,000 and $150,000 for this work have been submitted.
Monday night's Clay Central Everly Board meeting starts at 7:30 in Royal.
