Aquatic Center Re-Opening Plans

Spencer, IA (KICD)--The Spencer Aquatic Center will reopen at 12:30 p.m. this coming  Sunday.

Spencer Family YMCA Executive Director Becky LaBarre says  “Out of respect for Michael (Rohan), his family and his friends, we are keeping the Aquatic Center closed until his services have taken place. We hope that reopening the Aquatic Center on Sunday will help our community begin to heal.”  Rohan passed away this weekend following a drowning incident at the aquatic center last week.

The Spencer Family YMCA has taught thousands of people to swim and enjoy the water safely over the past 50 years.  The Y and the City of Spencer offer a two-week session of Red Cross swim lessons, open to anyone in the community, for $10 each summer at the Aquatic Center. Financial assistance is available to those in need. The Y also offers free swim lessons to all second graders through its Splash program. For more information regarding the Red Cross or Splash swim lessons.
