Accidents & Arrests



Spencer, IA (KICD)--The Clay County Sheriff's Office is called to the Spencer Hospital ER early this (Friday) morning.

28-year-old Cortney Rutter's 1996 Chevy Lumina was located in the 3000 mile of 240th Avenue and it was determined she was heading north at approximately 2:30 when she lost control, entered the east ditch, and rolled the car onto its top.

Rutter was cited for failure to maintain control and an OWI charge is pending toxicology results.  She sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
 
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Fort Dodge man is found found lying in a vehicle which was running in the parking lot with four flat tires and extensive damage.

An investigation by Storm Lake Police alleges that 22-year-old Jacob Peterson was driving the vehicle and while traveling southbound on Otsego Street the vehicle crossed West 5th Street and continued southbound where no road existed. The vehicle crossed railroad tracks, a sidewalk and lawn and then struck a dead end sign located on Otsego Street south of the West 5th Street railroad crossing. The investigation further alleges that Peterson then drove the vehicle loosing all four of its tires approximately nine blocks back to the motel.

Police arrested Peterson and charged him with OWI 2nd Offense, Striking a Fixture Adjacent to a Highway and Failure to Maintain Control. Peterson was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,600 cash bond.

There was minimal damage to the traffic control sign the vehicle collide with. The CN Railroad will send a crew to insure no damage to the railroad tracks exists.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--Storm Lake Police are called to the One Stop Shop in reference to a theft.

Last Saturday a group of adult women purchased approximately $2,200.00 in alcohol, cigarettes, fuel and lottery tickets from the store using ten (10) personal checks. Police allege the checks were tendered by two account holders who had been previously notified by their respective banks that the four (4) different checking accounts they were drawing on had been closed. 

After investigation it was found that several other checks had allegedly been passed at the Storm Lake Hy-Vee Store in September and had been returned due to the accounts having insufficient funds.

One of the suspects, 21-year-old Lalisa Woods was beleived to be living in Havelock.  After a search it was found that Woods had recently moved from the apartment and now resided in Marathon.  A consent search of ther home turned up a small amount of marijuana as well as items that were allegedly purchased with the fraudulent checks.

Woods was charged with a class B felony count of On-going Criminal Conduct, a class C felony charge of Money Laundering, and a class D felony count of 2nd degree theft.  She was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $40,000 cash bond.

The seized marijuana was turned over to the Buena Vista County Sheriffs Department for additional charges.

Additional arrests are anticipated in the investigation.

Armstrong, IA (KICD)--Emmet County Deputies and Armstrong Police respond to an assault report early Tuesday morning.

On scene it was found that 24-year-old Joshua McFadden of Sheldon allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, 23-year-old Alyssa LePaige of Sheldon and his mother.  McFadden had fled prior to the arrival of authorities.  LePaige was arrested on a pair of outstanding arrest warrants out of Lyon County.

McFadden was found at the home of 35-year-old Chad Freitag and 40-year-old Beth Vogt who were each arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.  A complete search of the home turned up more drugs and paraphernalia.

McFadden was jailed on two class D felony counts of domestic abuse by strangulation, two class D felony charges of willful injury, obstruction of emergency communications, and possession of both prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia.  His bond was set at $40,950 cash or surety.

Freitag and Vogt were each charged with one count of possession of prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia.  They were held on a $1,950 cash or surety bond.

Emmet County Conservation assisted on scene.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A residential burglary is investigated by Storm Lake Police.

The reporting party told police on Tuesday that someone had entered her residence and stole stereo items and other property with a value of approximately $4,000.

After investigation 18-year-old Moises Gracia 1nd 19-year-old Nicholas Senesoury, both of Storm Lake, were each arrested on class D felony counts of 2nd degree theft and 3rd degree burglary.  Both were booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond each.

On Thursday afternoon, Storm Lake Police located a third suspect, 16-year-old Ceasar Gracia, in Varina.  He faces the same charges and was transported to the Youth Detention Facility in Cherokee pending a court date in Juvenile Court.

Approximately $3,000 in stolen property was recovered by police and returned to the victim.
