Late Friday evening, the Buena Vista County Comm Center received a 911 call of a snowmobile accident in an open field just east of Storm Lake. The Buena Vista County Sheriffs Office and Buena Vista Regional Medical Center both responded.
37-year old Laura Wheeler-Plantz was injured in the mishap, and was taken to Buena Vista Medical Center by private vehicle. She was later transferred to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, for head and upper torso injuries.
An investigation into the accident determined the snowmobile driver, 27-year old Brent Ulrich of Albert City was intoxicated and was charged with OWI, Ulrich was also found to have a concealed 9-MM in his possession, and while he had a valid permit, it's considered invalid when a person is intoxicated.
Ulrich was charged also with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and further charges are pending, due to the severity of the injuries to Plantz.
Everly, IA (KICD)--A Clear Lake woman was hospitalized following a Thursday evening accident.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office says 67-year-old Abraham Born of Clear Lake was heading west in the 1000 mile of Highway 18 shortly before 9:30 in a 2008 Cadillac STS. Born dropped off the right shoulder of the highway and lost control on the snow covered road as he pulled back onto the highway. The car entered the south ditch and stopped in a corn field.
Linda Born was transported to the Spencer Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries and later released.
Spencer Ambulance and Everly Fire and Rescue assisted on scene.
Ocheyedan, IA (KICD)--No injuries were reported following a Saturday afternoon ambulance versus pickup accident.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says 45-year-old Neal Eisenbacher of Spencer was driving a 2012 Chevy Ambulance owned by the city of Spencer west on Highway 9 at noon when he saw a 2006 GMC Sierra K-1500 cross the centerline. Eisenbacher tried to move over but was still sideswiped by the pickup damaging the mirror which broke off and shattered the driver’s window of the pickup.
The driver of the pickup, 42-year-old Wendy Swarthout of Ocheyedan, was cited for failure to yield half the roadway when meeting a vehicle
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Linn Grove shoplifter was arrested on drug charges by Storm Lake Police on Friday.
Employees at the Storm Lake Wal-Mart reported they located a small purse near a trash can in their office that contained a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Store staff further reported they reviewed security camera footage and observed two alleged shoplifters that had previously been detained in the office hide the drugs and paraphernalia between the trash can and wall in the office prior to the arrival of police.
Police identified one of the alleged suspects as 33-year-old Antony Willprecht. Police acquired an arrest warrant charging Willprecht with Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia.
Willprecht turned himself in Friday night and was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,300 cash bond.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A wanted man was apprehended by the Omaha Police Department on Friday.
47-year-old Idelfonso Hernandez of Storm Lake allegedly stole a US Treasury Check about a month ago and cashed it at the Valentinas Meat Market in Storm Lake.
Following an investigation Storm Lake Police acquired an arrest warrant charging Hernandez with a class D felony count of Forgery. He was arrested Friday morning and is being held on a $5,000 cash bond pending extradition back to Storm Lake.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Storm Lake Police Officer breaks his arm while investigating a Friday evening domestic disturbance.
As officers were responding they were informed that the suspect, 19-year-old Erick Gutierrez had departed the residence in a vehicle and then returned. The female party involved in the disturbance, 25-year-old Maria Para of Storm Lake, told police that Gutierrez, who was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants, had departed the home on foot.
Officers asked and were granted permission to search the home and while checking an officer opened a hallway closet door and was allegedly immediately attacked by Gutierrez who was hiding in the closet. Gutierrez charged the officer and swung with both fists striking the officer ten to fifteen times. The officer along with a second officer took Gutierrez to the ground where he continued to reportedly fight with officers. Gutierrez refused officers commands at which time he was subdued with the use of a Taser.
Police transported Gutierrez to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where he was treated for injuries sustained in the fight with police.
A Storm Lake Police Officer was also treated at the medical center for a broken hand which occurred while arresting Gutierrez. He was released from the medical center pending further treatment.
Para was charged with Interference With Official Acts and held on a $300 cash bond.
