2012 Census Of Agriculture In The Mail

Spencer, IA: (Dec. 14, 2012) - The 2012 USDA Census of Agriculture should arrive in your mailbox next week. Renee Picanso is director of the Census. She says three million census forms were mailed on Friday (Dec. 14th.)

Picanso talks about how the information gathered by the census will be used.

She says there will be some new items on this year’s census.

Picanso says returning the census is mandatory, and she says the time required to fill it out depends on the type of operation you have.

The census arrives this week, but you have some time to complete it, according to Picanso.

The first Census of Agriculture was conducted in 1820 as part of that year’s national census. After the 1978 Census of Agriculture, the USDA decided to conduct the census every five years, in years ending in “2” or “7.”
